Fish River Home: Elevated from slab
Because of the danger of flooding, this 2-story home on Fish River needed to be elevated from the existing slab and a new flooring/foundation system constructed. We removed doors and cabinets as needed before installing six 60-foot-long steel cross beams through the house for support. Before elevating, we braced inside and outside with 2x12s lag-bolted to the studs. Using the steel beams we then raised the house about 5-feet while we constructed a new floor system using 2x12 stringers, 2x12 floor joist and a subfloor of 3/4" T&G plywood. The house was then lowered onto the floor system and the beams removed. The beams were then placed UNDER the new floor system and the house was raised to 14 feet.
The old concrete slab was sawcut and removed. New footers with 2 mats of rebar were poured 36" wide. 16"x16" piers were constructed with concrete-filled blocks. Finally, the house was lowered onto the new foundation and bolted to the 2x12 stringers. Completion time: 6 weeks. ~ Oct. 2008
